The Block 216 tower opened in late October 2023 following four years of construction. This final gallery takes a look at the completed exterior and spaces associated with the Ritz-Carlton hotel and condos. Interior construction will continue into 2024 and beyond with build-out of the five levels of office space, the corner retail space at SW 10th & Alder, and the highly anticipated Flock Food Hall along the new Green Loop across the entire SW 9th Ave. frontage.
Exteriors
Ground Level & Public Realm
Completed exteriors at SW 10th & Alder.Completed sidewalks, canopies, and storefronts on SW 10th Ave, where the corner retail space will soon host a jeweler. Level 2 Event Center

SW 9th Ave Green Loop
The SW 9th Ave green loop from the south at SW Alder St.Extensive plantings are installed in raised planters along the SW 9th Ave green loop.The curb-less “woonerf” streetscape on SW 9th Ave will soon become an outdoor extension of the Flock Food Hall.The green loop is paved with 6″ x 12″ concrete pavers in a herringbone pattern with two colors for texture.The raised planters on the east side of SW 9th Ave are fully above-grade due to the historic basements below the sidewalk.The western planters and northeastern side are located outside of basements, so they take sloped forms both above and below grade. The above grade portions serve as vehicular barriers along the curb-less street. The ceiling plane created by the catenary lights over the SW 9th Ave right of way results from monumental permitting achievements and agreements between three property owners and the City of Portland. This precedent could continue to additional blocks of the green loop as it develops.Overhead catenary lights, raised planters, and illuminated wood benches define a characteristic identity for the new SW 9th Ave green loop segment.The SW 9th Ave. green loop will become an active indoor-outdoor hub once the Flock food hall opens along its entire frontage in Spring 2024.
