A Vision for Transportation in Portland, OR

Three steps toward a better future:

  1. Enable public transit options to be consistently faster than single-occupant (including autonomous) vehicle options. Replace general lanes with continuous bus/Rose Lanes on ALL Trimet frequent service routes. Collaborate with Trimet to expand light rail service to SW Portland and express grade-separated routes both ways across the central city.
  2. Fill all critical gaps in the local sidewalk network (especially in SW Portland) to allow safe pedestrian access to destinations and to frequent transit service. Complete the Green Loop and build out the Metro Regional Trails system with grade separation at all major vehicular crossings, to attract people to non-motorized travel options.
  3. Collaborate with ODOT to decommission I-5 on the eastbank, remove the Marquam bridge, and cap the full length of I-405. Discontinue investments that improve capacity for single-occupant vehicles and oppose all such investments by other agencies within city limits. Remove barriers to human connection and reclaim this space for productive local use.
