The arrangement of Deck the Halls for cello trio is built on an ostinato of arpeggiated bell tones. A series of building accompaniments lead to the festive emergence of the melody, revealing the ostinato as accompaniment. Each part trades the melody with individual stylistic tweaks before a repeated section in three part harmony. The ostinato returns, repeating until the foundational interpretation of the melody joins its ostinato derivative. A gradual rhythmic simplification and decrescendo bring the piece to a close.
