This setting of the spiritual Go, Tell it on the Mountain brings jazz to the cello ensemble with a heavy swing through a series of settings that trades the melody between parts and octaves. The first verse features an accented syncopation with ample use of rhythmic rests. The second verse drops the melody to the bass octave while the other parts apply triplets. In the third verse, a calmer countermelody begins in one part and is joined in another by the end. Finally, the fourth verse introduces the upper octave of the melody, as the accompaniment provides supportive harmonies before reintroducing the triplets to bring the piece to a close.
