CRANHAM is the hymn tune that Gustav Holst wrote for the text In the Bleak Midwinter, first published in The English Hymnal (1906), and popularly sung as a Christmas carol. This arrangement for cello trio omits the direct four-part harmony in favor of simplified references to the original chord structure. The second verse features an arpeggiated ostinato trading between the lower parts. Cello 1 repeats the melody in each verse, with the third-verse accompaniment using descending scales in varying intervals.
