Wondrous Love is the hymn tune most commonly paired with What Wondrous Love is This. This arrangement works best with a quartet of one cellist per part.
The five verses are arranged symmetrically, beginning and ending with a simple doubling of the melody over repeated arpeggiated lines. The second and forth verse apply the melody in fourths in an upper octave with alternate arpeggios. The third verse breaks into syncopated variations on the theme in canon. Harmonically, this arrangement maintains an ambiguous diatonic aesthetic, primarily in Dorian and Lydian modes.
