This arrangement sets the hymn tune STUTTGART into a simple progression of statements for cello quartet. The first two verses are duets of melody and harmony first in the upper parts, then in the lower parts. The third verse introduces an altered rhythm and layers additional elements over the duet. The fourth and fifth verses continue developing dotted rhythms and build to a four-part texture. Finally, the original four-part harmonization is played twice.
The resulting piece is accessible to intermediate cellists and best played by four-part quartets.
