2A. Reflections is a sequel to Philanthropic Reflections for Cello Duet. The piece features seven variations inspired by Taps for solo cello, in response to national events surrounding a conspicuous uptick in that work’s popularity in spring 2022. Unlike the previous set of reflections, this piece evokes a series of specific ideas. It is at times mournful, hypocritical, patriotic, and disconcerting.

Extensive harmonics and bold pizzicato lines create a distinctive texture. While some of the harmonics are difficult to achieve clearly (especially on older strings), the potential for scratches and squeals should be embraced as enhancing the intended characteristics of this work.
