This short piece for cello ensemble is inspired by the structural frame of the headhouse of Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood, Oregon. The simple form constructed largely with unskilled labor is reflected in an easier level of difficulty. All four parts are in first position. The most difficult element is to follow the variable meter as an ensemble.

Percussive tapping and extensive pizzicato represent the manual labor employed in erecting the heavy, solid wood timbers in the structure. Variable meter demonstrates different symmetries and layouts, such as the three beams framing into each column. The piece culminates in a sweeping bowed section in 6/4, representing the final hexagonal form of the space, which is represented in both the structure and decorative elements from light fixtures to tables.
