VICTORY is an old tune popularized by its nineteenth-century pairing with the text The Strife is O’er, The Battle Done, and Monk’s associated harmonization. This arrangement for cello choir sets this harmonization to an open G-Major to take advantage of a large group of cellists. Three inner verses feature original accompaniments that develop into triplet ostinatos. Monk’s harmonization is repeated with minor alterations followed by the alleluia coda with a descant in cello IV.
