The Largo movement from Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World” is well known for its iconic theme “Goin’ Home”. This arrangement sets the entire symphonic movement for large cello choir. It works best with at least two cellists on each of the six parts.
More-advanced groups can learn the entire nine-minute movement and perform it successfully with as few as six cellists. Intermediate groups can leverage the support of multiple cellists per part. The first section is easier and can be played as a standalone piece through measure 45, as demonstrated in the sample recording.
