Unlike most hymn tunes, MADRID (also known as Spanish Hymn or Seville) is not closely associated with a particular text. It is used with a wide variety of sacred and secular hymns. MADRID may be most recognized in the United States for its use in Carmen Ohio, song of The Ohio State University.

This arrangement uses the more-articulated variation in marching tempo. The first and last verse are four-part harmony in a bright D-major with some alterations to best leverage cello timber in each part. The second verse is a syncopated variation. The third verse features alternating sixteenth note arpeggios in the lower parts, punctuated by sustained high harmonics. It’s not critical to hit all of the fast notes as long as the rhythm is maintained, allowing the arrangement to maintain an approachable intermediate level of difficulty with opportunity for improvement with practice.
